Which one is you?
The outside fix never holds.
A new policy, a new hire, a new program. A new job, a new city, a new relationship. Every one of them is a change on the outside, and every one of them wears off, because the inside did not change. That is how leaders burn out their best people, and how good people take another year for granted.
Change that lasts starts on the inside.
Inside First, in practice.
Three things change when the inside does. The same idea runs a treatment company, a leadership team and a life, and it is the idea behind everything I speak and consult on.

A team people don't leave: when the people on your team are treated like they matter, they treat your guests and customers the same way. Retention follows.

A leader worth following: lead yourself before you lead anyone else. Know who you are when no one is watching, and your people will follow that.

A life not taken for granted: wake up grateful. Do the inside work. Then chase the outside, and it will mean something when you get there.

Ways to work together: keynotes, DISC training, executive and personal coaching, culture consulting, podcasts and panels. Start the conversation and tell me about your room or your team.
I've been on both sides of care.
In July 2004 I walked into treatment with nothing left to lose. Somebody treated me like I was worth saving before I believed it myself. I have spent every year since trying to do that for someone else. Today I'm the Chief Executive Officer of AltaPoint Healthcare, with more than twenty years in addiction treatment, and I speak, train and consult on leadership and culture in behavioral health. In recovery since 2004.
